Relational Intelligence in CI: Embodied CoCreative Practices
“All Intelligence is Collective Intelligence”

This workshop is a deep dive into those relational practices inherent in dancing contact improvisation that
build a foundation for co-creativity, individual and collective trust, and ultimately, emergent phenomenon.
Relational intelligence is part of the meeting of dance partners when we experience ongoing surprise and
the rise of actions greater than any single being can conceive. To understand the fundamentals of our co-
creative meetings we study the body that knows, communicates, and inquires through all levels of touch.
Embodied attention shapes our meetings and awakens communication. It moves within bodyminds, faster
than body language. While working on the physicality of moving well and moving well together, we will
train those embodiments that are always also in consideration of our partner’s well-being – and our ability
to know so. Through training specific practices, working through scores, showings, discussions, and other
investigative modes, we delve into topics that make physical the ethics of care, modalities of difference,
decolonizing our embodiments and our relational expectations, and reWilding our moving
presence. Creative, thoughtful, heart based, skill based, our learning will be anchored in the core
principles of Contact Improvisation. From the concrete to the sublime, we will stretch the reach of our
dance until it lives within our every moment.

We will investigate the „beyond small“, explore the spine , undulation , strength, balance and stillness.
This workshop series is born out of curiosity to time as in taking time and focus on movement beyond small. How is our dance of Contact Improvisation changing from with- in this physically based focus on the spine.

- Thursday 10:00 – 16:00 UhrContent: playful and focused approach to scores. Includes: movement sourcing, tuning scores,
ensemble states, authentic movement, instant composition and improvisation. For those
interested in performing and those interested in not performing (for example: discovering our
selves as improvisors, connecting with others through movement, deepening our movement
practice.We start with connecting to our bodies and then take it into group explorations.
Getting lost. Composition as mediation. The material will range from compositional practice
to exploring the intangibles (curiosity, vulnerability, commitment, presence). We will work with
the spirit of exploration—not jumping to judgement /evaluation— and will learn as much by
watching each other as by being watched. While the aim is to practice composition and explore
the intangibles we will also undercut the hype of “performing” with the practice of witnessing.- Sourcing–connecting with your body, impulses + spontaneity
- Ensemble states–tuning exercises, composition and non-composition,
- Performance Jam–open space with intention and group focus, but less rigid than a formal

Contact improv / flying maneuvers / fluid acrobatics
We will start with contact practices in which sensation and proprioception lead to refined
skills. We will work with physics and somatics that support freedom of flight and
expression. (Pleasure 㲗 Technique; Somatics → Acrobatics)
Aerial aspects of contact improvisation: flying, catching, landing, fluid acrobatics, deft
maneuvers. For the acrobatics. Everyone will work at their own level and will learn best
by building group safety and trust. We will practice integrating the flying and acrobatics
into the contact flow. That is: aerial interactions that increase the contact.
We’ll do some of my favorite contact exercises and current curiosities. Created or
learned over the decades investigation and indulgence.
